You
have the biggest choice of seaside activities in the Big Resort. Take a leisurely
stroll along the prom and admire Hove's elegant Regency architecture, watch
the jugglers on Hove's sweeping seafront lawns. Or let yourself go in one of
Brighton's funfairs or amusement centres. The seafront here is undergoing a
transformation with landscaping and the redevelopment of the seafront arches.
A brand new Fishing Museum, the new Living Postcards Museum, crazy golf, arts
and crafts shops, children's play areas and new cafes and bars are breathing
yet more life into this popular stretch of Brighton's varied seafront. Or take
it easy on the beach with an ice cream. Go for a swim. Why not go the whole
way? Lose your inhibitions and try the nudist beach towards the Marina to the
east! Right along Brighton & Hove's seafront there's always something going
on with Punch and Judy, mime artists, buskers, poets, like music and paddling
pools on the Beach Deck.
The Palace Pier is one of the most popular attractions in Britain. Open all
day, every day, right through the year, it's a temptation difficult to resist,
with free admission, free deck chairs and, in the summer and on Bank Holidays,
special free entertainment. The funfair at the end of the pier includes new
rides as well as all the old favourites. And the walk out to sea takes you past
kiosks and stalls offering a bewildering range of merchandise.
There are three bars on the Pier (one with karaoke entertainment), a wide choice
of take-away food, a picnic site and the Palm Court fish and chip restaurant
- a great way to enjoy Britain's traditional seaside fare!
Opposite the pier stands Brighton's Sea Life Centre - one of the largest marine
life centres in the country. It has an amazing underwater tunnel offering an
uninterrupted view of life beneath the waves as stingrays, British sharks and
octopuses glide overhead. The Centre offers daily talks on the natural history
of British sea life, and visitors can watch the marine life up close at feeding
time.
Brighton Marina is one of the largest marinas of its kind in Europe.
The harbour wall offers spectacular views over the 2,000 berth marina and, towards
land, back to the sweeping grandeur of Sussex Square and Lewes Crescent. The
Marina village complex contains exclusive sports shops, galleries, boutiques,
water side pubs, restaurants and an eight-screen multiplex cinema. The stylish
residential area is built around the inner lagoon - good strolling country for
a Sunday lunchtime! The marina offers a range of activities quite apart from
sailing. Try Fast-Trax speed-karting, fishing or bungee-jumping. There's a busy
Sunday market, and parking is plentiful.
