In
Brighton & Hove enjoy some of Britain's brightest, liveliest nightclubs
and discos. Experiment! We have a wide range of clubs and pubs offering a great
mix on entertainment: smokey clubs serving up cappuccino and bohemian jazz,
sweaty discos, cool nite spots for the smart set in the big hotels on the seafront,
open to residents and non-residents alike, and discos for Brighton & Hove's
large student population - from our two universities and the numerous language
schools which contribute to our special cosmopolitan atmosphere. Outside London
there's simply no other town to match our nightclubs!
Pub theatre is alive and well and there's regular weekly cabaret in two local
pubs. And the peace of Sunday lunchtime is rudely shaken by the sound of jazz
from any one of more than a dozen local bars, each with a reputation for top
quality music and great entertainment. Free entertainment in the form of buskers
and travelling musicians is one of the specialities if Brighton & Hove -
we seem to be the Busking Capital of the world!
See the latest blockbusters, and the best from around the world in Brighton
& Hoves cinemas. We have no less than 19 screens showing a wide range of
films - surely something for everyone. For mainstream movies, try our two resort
centre cinemas, our multiplex at Brighton Marina Village with its convenient
parking. Alternatively, for the serious film buff, The Duke of York cinema specialises
in 'art house' pictures and the best non-mainstream releases from around the
world.
The Big Resort has some of the South's biggest and best events venues attracting
the biggest and best names. The Brighton Centre is one of the country's largest
indoor arenas with a constant programme of great entertainment - from Paul Simon
to the Lego exhibition, from Tom Jones to international tennis, from James Last
to Holiday on Ice. The Dome, once the Pavilion's stables, is a mecca for comedians
and top musicians. Next door The Corn Exchange hosts community and civic events
and, at the regular antique fairs, bargain hunters. In Hove, the modern Town
Hall boasts a large performance hall and an impressive schedule of entertainment,
from opera recitals to beer festivals, from boxing matches to flamenco dancing.
