Princesa Sofia Inter-Continental Barcelona is located on the exclusive Diagonal Avenue, in the heart of the trade and financial centre of the city.
Built in 1975, it was officially inaugurated by Her Highness the Queen Sofia in August 1975, after whom the hotel was named. This building was erected after 2 years of heavy constructions works. They utilised 58.000 square metres of urban soil, 500 metres of cable and wiring and more than 600 windows; the first hotel in Spain to use convection ovens.

Princesa Sofia Inter-continental was the OLYMPIC committee headquarters during the 1992 Olympics. In 1996,Inter-continental Hotels & Resorts took over the management of the hotel, investing the amount of 20 USD million into the full renovation of the entire hotel.
The designer of the image, Mr.Pierre Yves Rochon,has already shown its magnificent style at the Carlton Inter-Continental Cannes, Grand Hotel Inter-Continental Paris or the Amstel Inter-continental Amsterdam.
